Why Study Applied Engineering at NJIT?

Applied engineering students are problem‑solvers, builders, integrators, and managers who want an education aligned with industry expectations. 

NJIT’s School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET) designs its programs around those expectations, meeting the needs of industry, and preparing graduates to make an immediate impact in the workforce.

SAET offers two distinct pathways. Our Engineering Technology programs prepare students for technology-driven careers, supported by the level of theory required of a practicing engineer. Our applied Engineering program builds a broader theoretical foundation with strong technological depth, preparing students for industry roles and for applied research through our graduate program in Engineering Science.

All SAET programs emphasize the technologies, systems, and processes used in professional practice. This includes digital tools for design, analysis, and realization; computing and control technologies; project-management platforms; and applications of artificial intelligence.

Students learn engineering principles and immediately apply them in project environments, testing labs and experiential opportunities that mirror industry operations. This approach ensures graduates develop communication skills, technical fluency, problem‑solving ability, and applied experience needed to contribute effectively from day one.
