Welcome from the Director

Welcome to The School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET), NJIT’s home for applied undergraduate and graduate programs. Students in these programs receive both classroom and experiential opportunities that focus on realization as opposed to theoretical work. SAET has several unique offerings crossing over the different areas of science, engineering, and technology.

The B.S. in General Engineering provides opportunities for multi/interdisciplinary education and allows students to pursue unique concentrations centered on industry positions. This includes a concentration in Engineering Innovation and Intellectual Property that provides the foundation for those interested in working in the intellectual property space.

Multi- and Inter-disciplinary education can also be pursued in our Engineering Science graduate program, consisting of our M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Science degree options. The graduate program is intended for students who are interested in blending the engineering design process for problem solving and the scientific method to describe and understand the natural world. Students can pursue customized plans of study or specializations, including an established plan of study in Engineering Education. Graduates have a number of opportunities in academia, industry, and government roles.

The Engineering Technology programs are focused on the needs of industry. Students study problem solving through the engineering design process, and the application of modern technology (tools, devices, software and systems). Technology constantly changes in industry. The Engineering Technology programs respond by continuously updating their curriculum to address this dynamic environment. The plans of study are project based, typically have an integrated applied laboratory, and are designed to prepare students for employment in a wide range of technical fields. There are several programs to consider within four divisions. The Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) program is within our Biology and Life Science division. The Built Environment Division has several programs including Construction Engineering Technology (CET), Construction Management Technology (CMT), Concrete Industry Management (CIM), and Surveying Engineering Technology (SET). The B.S. in Concrete Industry Management is a unique engineering technology-based program. This is a concrete industry supported program that provides a foundation in concrete material, processing, construction technology, and management. Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET), Industrial Engineering Technology (IET), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), and Software and Data Engineering Technology (SDET) are within the Electrical and Mechanical Division. The Engineering Education Division contains our Technology Education (TEED) program.

The Engineering Technology courses are taught by a faculty with both industrial experience and advanced academic degrees. Program graduates can pursue licensure, professional certification, or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering management, and other areas.  The B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs provide an opportunity to pursue Professional Engineering licensure. In addition, those graduating from the B.S in Surveying Engineering Technology can pursue their Professional Land Surveyor license.
