This laboratory provides SAET students hands on experiments to design intelligent living environments to support independent living by individuals over the age of sixty-five. The lab contains both Arduino microcontrollers and Raspberry pi quadcore Linux systems. Sensors, motors, cameras etc. support students working on class labs for the following courses:
MIT 362: Geriatric Engineering Technology I
MIT 360: Introduction to Gerontology
CPT 325: Medical Informatics I & CPT 425: Medical Informatics II
(a minor in Geriatric Engineering Technology is available with above courses and MIT 231 and ECET 201)
Students are also encouraged to design new innovative systems and pursue research and funding and commercialization opportunities. NSF I-Corps Site Mini-Grant are available through collaboration with Michael Ehrlich in the Management Dept. Eligible teams are made up of an NJIT faculty member, an NJIT students. Four student groups have obtained NSF I grants. View the Online Application.
