Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)
The program provides the engineering and technology foundation to enter a number of applied areas including automation, HVAC, automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
About the Program
The New Jersey Institute of Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) Program (B.S. Engineering Technology) prepares graduates with knowledge, problem solving ability, and hands-on skills to enter careers in the design, installation, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, technical sales, or maintenance of mechanical systems. Our graduates typically have strengths in the analysis, applied design, development, implementation, or oversight of advanced mechanical systems and processes.
The MET Program emphasizes hands-on experience and the use of state-of-art computer software in the fields of mechanical design, automatic controls, power generation, CAD/CAM, HVAC, and engineering sales. The MET Program also provides a background in mathematics and science, which is sufficient to allow students to go on to graduate school, and also obtain a professional engineering license.
The MET Program is a full four-year curriculum, which also provides an opportunity for transfer students with A.A.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology to complete their baccalaureate degree. In the case of all students, both four-year and transfer, a minimum of 120 credits is required for graduation.
In addition to the mandatory courses as specified in the MET program, the student must take at least two cohesive electives from the approved list of MET electives.
NJIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology Program (B.S. Engineering Technology) is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET http://www.abet.org., under the General Criteria and the Program Criteria for Mechanical Engineering Technology and Similarly Named Programs.
Accreditation.org (https://accreditation.org/), an effort of New Jersey Institute of Technology, offers information about why program accreditation is an important consideration when choosing a degree program. The portal underscores NJIT’s commitment to accreditation and supports building awareness of the value of worldwide accreditation of academic programs in engineering, engineering technology, and computing.
